Christian Dior Museum & Garden
The site you cannot miss when you are in Normandy: Christian Dior Museum & Garden is located in Granville dresser's child house.
The Christian Dior Museum is an emblematic place in the town of Granville, in Normandy. Created in 1997 in the childhood home of the famous fashion designer Christian Dior, the museum has become one of the most popular tourist sites in the region. Through a unique collection of clothes, accessories and art objects, the museum invites you to dive into the world of fashion and discover the fascinating history of the House of Dior.
The history of the museum
The Christian Dior Museum was launched by the Christian Dior Foundation. It was created in 1987 by the designer’s family to preserve the legacy of Christian Dior. Dior’s childhood home in Granville was purchased by the family in 1930 and was the source of inspiration for many Dior collections.
In 1997, the house was transformed into a museum, which now houses a collection of over 200 dresses, accessories, drawings and photographs of haute couture. The collection covers all the periods of the House of Dior, from the creation of the brand in 1947 to the present day.
The exhibitions
The museum offers a series of temporary exhibitions that explore different aspects of fashion and the Dior world. These exhibitions are often organised in collaboration with other renowned museums and institutions, giving them an international scope.
The permanent collection features a selection of iconic Dior pieces, including evening gowns, suits, accessories and jewellery. The rooms are organised by theme, allowing visitors to discover the different eras and influences that have marked the history of the brand.
Activities
The museum also offers a range of activities for visitors, including guided tours, creative workshops and special events. Guided tours are offered in several languages and allow visitors to discover the collection and the history of the House of Dior in depth.
The creative workshops are a unique opportunity to discover the techniques of haute couture and to create your own piece of clothing or accessory under the guidance of a fashion professional. Special events include lectures, concerts and film screenings.
